This vase is made out of a "Snake Gourd". Barbara noticed it naturally balanced on the stem end and so a self
supporting vase was born.
Barbara wanted a gourd to take with her to shows and events that would illustrate the
process of crafting a gourd. The stem end ( bottom) was left natural with the waxy coating that is on many gourds. It also
has an interesting smattering of "warts" on the base that is common to some types of gourds. As the gourd rises vertically, so
does the removal of the waxy coating that gives way to the gleaming , woody finish that begs ( and is) adorned with pyrography, beads,
feathers, leather dyes and such. Steps are cut into the rim to give it a southwest architectural feel.
This
stand alone gourd measures 15" tall and is available for
$95.00
